Safety Policy
Effective: March 2026 | FireRing
FireRing is a community for road travelers, campers, van lifers, truckers, and bikers. We take safety seriously — especially for solo travelers. This policy explains our safety measures, legal obligations, and how we protect our community.
🔍 Sex Offender Registry Check
Required consent on signup: Every FireRing account requires explicit consent to a background registry check. By signing up, members authorize FireRing to check their provided name against the National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW) operated by the U.S. Department of Justice.
What we check: We search the National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW) using the legal name provided at signup.
What happens on a match:
- The account is immediately and permanently suspended
- All access to FireRing is revoked
- The user is notified via email with the reason for removal
- No refunds will be issued for any paid features
Limitations: This check uses publicly available registry data and is not a comprehensive background check. It is a supplemental safety measure, not a guarantee. FireRing is not liable for acts committed by registered or unregistered individuals who gain access to the platform.
⚖️ Appeal Process
We understand that registry data can be inaccurate, outdated, or contain false positives (common names, incorrect records). If you believe your account was removed in error:
- Email safety@firering.app with subject line: "Registry Check Appeal"
- Include your full legal name, email address, and the basis for your appeal
- We will review within 5–10 business days
- Appeals may require government-issued ID to resolve name conflicts
Appeals are taken seriously. We will not remove accounts without reasonable confidence in the match. False positives are a known issue with public registries, and we approach disputes with fairness.
🛡️ Community Safety Guidelines
FireRing operates on mutual trust. All members agree to:
- Provide accurate name and location information
- Report suspicious or threatening behavior immediately
- Never share personal contact information of other members without consent
- Use meetup features responsibly — meet in public places first
- Never use FireRing to harass, threaten, or stalk other members
🚨 Reporting a Safety Issue
If you feel threatened or witness unsafe behavior on FireRing:
📧 Safety reports: safety@firering.app
🚨 Urgent / emergency: Always call 911 first. FireRing is not a substitute for emergency services.
⏱️ Response time: Safety reports are reviewed within 24 hours on weekdays.
🗑️ Data & Privacy
Registry check data is not stored on our servers. Checks are performed at signup and periodically thereafter using only publicly available NSOPW data. We do not retain search results beyond what is legally required.
Your profile data (rig type, region, interests, bio) is visible to other FireRing members. You control what you share in your profile.
📋 Policy Updates
This policy may be updated as FireRing grows and regulations evolve. Continued use of FireRing after policy changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. Material changes will be communicated via email.
